New York City, My RV, Pizza and Bagels! A good trip!

Destinations

Going to New York City? We did! A one week stay at Liberty Harbor RV Park worked out GREAT for us. If you’re interested in visiting NYC while staying in your RV HOME, then Liberty Harbor RV Park will serve you well. It is located in Jersey City, New Jersey. It’s the closest RV Park to NYC and is simply a nice convenience for your visit into the city. As long as you’re accepting of that fact and therefore, not looking for full hook up sites, impressive lists of campground amenities, or being one with nature while hiking campground trails…you’ll appreciate this RV Park.

The park has essentially four rows of sites. All sites are Back- Ins. The first row is behind the office and consists of some RV sites, Tent Only sites, bathroom and laundry facilities. We did not checkout the laundry or bathrooms so, not sure how they rank. The dump station is at this end of the park. There are two rows of RV sites in the center of the park, with RVs parked side by side on a diagonal and backing up to another site. Each site has Electric and Water hook ups at the back end of the site. There are small patches of grass, at most sites, near the back end/hook ups.  FYI for pets: When we were there, we saw a grassy patch or sparse grass at the end of our center row.  The last or farthest row (from the office/front of park) has RV sites on a diagonal as well, however these sites back up to the fenced Dry Storage area instead of another RV like in the center rows. Yes, there is enough room to bring out your slides (driver & passenger) and for most, to park your car in front of your RV. We fit our RV (40 ft.) and car (small) on our site. Awnings out may depend on the site and obviously your neighbor’s RV size. We didn’t see any awnings out. Park has 24 hour security with a guard posted at the entrance. They were very nice and helpful with directions. Nighttime was quiet with the exception of a short fireworks display, one night from a restaurant/bar in the marina.

To get to NYC, everyday we walked about 10 blocks (.5 mile) to the PATH Station (Port Authority of NY & NJ) and rode the PATH subway train into NYC, without any problems. The walk is not bad, sidewalks most of the way and crosswalks through the busier streets (walking was at least a good effort to sorta cancel out eating pizza & bagels). Got our Metrocard at the PATH station and we were set. First day, we took the wrong subway line only twice when going around the city. That’s not too bad. We figured it out by day two and most importantly we found awesome PIZZA places like Don Antonio’s (featured on a “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives” show) near Hell’s Kitchen area, PIZZA at Nicoletta in the East Greenwich Village area, favorite BAGEL shop called “Ess-a-Bagel”, enjoyed Times Square, and much more.

The Liberty Landing Ferry is walking distance from the RV Park. We rode this ferry to catch the ferry for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Quick and easy.

Overall, this RV Park is not fancy, but we weren’t looking for fancy. Location overrides asphalt and gravel, for us. We enjoyed our NYC visit and we felt comfortable at this RV Park. We’ll definitely go back sometime!

P.S. MORE PIZZA SHARING INFO: Try out a place called “RAZZA” in NJ, near the RV Park. Yummy pizza! It’s only open for dinner. I remember that there’s more on the menu than pizza. They also have a small outside dining area, in front of the restaurant. We walked there, but you can find parking along the street.
